A dear and trusted friend has just crossed the bar.

I am sorry to be the bearer of sad news when I advise that Max
Hetherington, the Secretary Manager of the NZ Recreational Fishing Council
passed away at his home sometime during Monday night or early Tuesday. Max
had not been keeping the best of health lately but was always in good
spirits.

Max¹s funeral will be held at 1pm Monday 24th July In the Old Saint Pauls church
Mulgrave Street
Wellington

Max has been our secretary manager for 16 years and and a member of the
NZRFC for 20 years. He was a life member of the NZRFC and New Zealand
Underwater. From 1975 to 1990 he was the NZU Associations environmental
officer and continued that role for the NZRFC until his death.

Max who had recently celebrated his 60th birthday is survived by his two
daughter Mary and Patricia and sister Lynn.

With permission of Max's family I am setting up a "Max Hetherington
Foundation" with its aims:
For future recreational fishing development² with a supplementary role to
train young people in recreational fisheries advocacy and management for
"Fish for the future".

The idea of training young people for the future management and advocacy of
our recreational fisheries was born from one of the presentations given by
our Australian guests from Recfish Australia at our recent conference in
Hamilton. The Australians have a similar system in place and it is now
starting to work. Max was heard to say ³What a bloody good idea, just look
around, not a young one in sight. We need to think about this!²
The thinking is done. Its now time to make it happen in the memory of Max.

So if you would like to make a donation or in lieu of flowers Max¹s
daughters have asked that you please send donations to the Max Hetherington
Foundation (Trust account) PO Box 51-533 Pakuranga.

The trustees and trust documents will be available in accordance of time.

Please forward this email to any one who you think might have known Max.

It is still a sad day, my friend and trusted colleague will be sadly missed
